FAQ

Answer: The Orton Family Foundation started CommunityViz years ago but is no longer actively involved with the project. Placeways LLC spun off from the Foundation in 2005 and has been developing, selling, supporting, and consulting on CommunityViz until 2016, when Placeways LLC was purchased by City Explained, Inc. In 2022, CommunityViz was transferred to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, the largest university-based community extension and outreach program in the nation. The mission of CommunityViz remains much the same, and the AgriLife Extension Service team remains committed and passionate about producing outstanding software and providing world-class support.

Answer: You can find pricing breakdowns at the following:

  1. CommunityViz website

You can see a general overview of our most common products on our website.
(Note: Clicking ‘Purchase’ will not immediately add the product to your cart. You will be taken to the product page on Texas A&M University’s e-Store.)

  1. Texas A&M University e-Store

Answer: You may have a specialty or custom license that is not openly available on our e-Store page at this time. Please email info@communityviz.com for further support.

Yes, if you do not have an active “support renewal license”, at the time of CViz Pro release, you will have to repurchase support, to upgrade and install CViz Pro.

Answer: No, we have kept the same pricing structure as City Explained, Inc. If there are changes to pricing in the future, we will let our customers know.
Answer: Yes. Please make sure you visit our trial page to make sure you meet the trial install requirements.
Answer: No, unfortunately. Our Product team is working on a version to support ArcGIS Pro.
Answer: Our Product team is currently beta testing and working on migrating features and functionality to support ArcGis Pro. We plan to release in 2025. For more information, visit our Esri Compatibility page.

Thank you for your patience and continued support. We know our customers are eager to make the switch. We are too!

Answer: Depends on your Technical Support license status. Things to note:
  • When you purchase CommunityViz, you are purchasing a license configuration type, not a CommunityViz version.

  • When you purchase a qualifying license type, your license includes 12 months of Technical Support.

  • After a year from purchase, you have the option to renew your product technical support for an additional year.

If you purchase CommunityViz today, you would be given a CommunityViz 5.2 Installer Download (our latest release), which supports only Esri’s ArcMap ArcGIS 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8.

If you have an ‘Active’ Technical Support status, and we release the CommunityViz version to support ArcGIS Pro, you would be given the updated version with a new Download link.

Answer: Not at the moment. We are currently offering CommunityViz Trial Licenses that include our latest version, 5.2. As an “Installation Requirement” for CommunityViz 5.2, you would need to currently have an existing active ArcMap license. ArcMap is in the process of being retired, due to Esri migrating their users from ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Pro, they stopped new purchases in Feb of 2024.
Answer: Includes access to an expanded Knowlede Base of self-help articles and resources, troubleshooting errors, and access to latest releases.
Answer: Support is purchased for 12 months at a time and comes up for renewal on the anniversary of your initial license purchase.

Answer: If you meet any of the following, you should have an “Active” status.

  • I am within the first 12 months from the date I purchased CommunityViz.
  • I am within the 12 months from the date when I purchased a CommunityViz renewal license.

If you are unsure, you can submit a support ticket to verify your status.
